Ms. Halstead does a good job on this sequel to E&D's marriage. Both are a touch off from Austen's original, but overall it's an interesting, if unevenly paced, read. The pace was leisurely until the final two chapters, when it seemed to come together in too much of a rush. This was especially true in regards to Col. Fitzwilliam. The author would have done better to tighten up the beginning and middle, and end it with a slightly expanded ending - even another 2 short chapters would have worked.

Mr Darcy Presents His Bride A Sequel to Jane Austen Pride and Prejudice Helen Halstead 9781569755884 Books Reviews

I was surprised at how much I enjoyed this sequel. I read so many of them that I seldom feel inclined to bother to leave a review but, in this case, I almost feel obligated to do so. The book is well written, almost Austenesque. The characters are believable and act consistent to their Austen personalities and their time period. The narrative is enjoyable and it's one of those books you are sorry to have end. It is definitely one I will keep and read again and I highly recommend it.
I did enjoy some of the novel, very much, actually, but I found that the tones between Darcy and Elizabeth to have cruel/subvertive undertones that were not at all pleasant to read, and not from an instance, but overall through the book until the last 5 pages. The scenes with the men that surround Elizabeth otherwise in the obsessions/obsessive actions with her, was just a bit much, but some of the characters introduced, as well as some of the ones that we know, were fun to follow and it, of course, ended as it should, which was gratifying.
This effort is a bit confusing. I would encourage the reader to slog through the first few pages, as the language suffers from the "trying too hard" syndrome. As Elizabeth assumes Darcy regrets marrying her when his relatives react badly, Darcy assumes Elizabeth no longer cares for him when she achieves remarkable successes in Town. She grieves as he steams and in the midst of this she miscarries her first pregnancy! It takes some time and another tragedy to reunite them in the end. There is a fairly decent story to be found here, but it is a but confused, and disjointed, effort but nevertheless worth reading. At least I can say Bravo! for her thoughts on Wickham!
I, too, am a lover off all things Pride and Prejudice. Waited almost 4 months for this book to arrive. Elizabeth is everything we know her to be - witty, charming and nearly fearless. This is one of the best sequels I have ever read in its conveyance of her wit. You have real understanding of how she could be well received in spite of her lack of fortune. And unlike some others that would have her repeatedly make poor choices, this Lizzy does not. That pleased me tremendously. I think some authors want to give Lizzy modern sensibilities in the Regency period.

Still, there's something wrong with the ending. It's as if the author ran out of paper and had to wrap it up quickly. And the one sadness seemed unnecessary to the plot to me. I do love Wickham's outcome in this novel. I also want to thank one reviewer for saving me $40 in buying this book under another name. I've done that once with Linda Berdoll's novel.

This was well worth the read and I'd give it a 4+ but not perfection.
In this P&P sequel, Darcy introduces Elizabeth into London Society. The book is overstuffed with so many new characters that it was hard to keep them all straight! I thought that Darcy was developed well and true to character, but Elizabeth was not very appealing in this novel. She was overly distracted by her new acquaintances, instead of being focused on her relationship with Darcy as she should have been so soon after their wedding. However, Elizabeth's brains and wit do shine in this book, and she readily convinces the society snobs that she is a worthy partner for Darcy. I also enjoyed several other plot lines in the book, including the unpredictable relationship between Georgiana and Colonel Fitzwilliam. All in all, a middle of the road adaptation.
Picking up where Pride and Prejudice left off this humorous novel starts off with the double wedding and it's immediate aftermath. Lizzie gets whisked off to London society and faces the Ton who find her wit and sparkle just as endearing as Mr. Darcy did, in fact some find it a little too endearing, culminating in making a very powerful ally in the person of the Marchioness of Englebury. The story of London society and the workings and machinations of the upper classes of the time was engaging and often laugh out loud funny as the author kept to the tone of Jane Austen's sardonic wit. The characters not only stayed in character but were developed throughout the book and grew and changed in very believable ways.

Unfortunately this book did end up introducing almost too many new characters whose parts drove the plot for a greater part of the book. Also I saw some people complain that Mr. Darcy was too withdrawn, but the thing is he always was and I think proved that he had changed but not drastically. Being a social butterfly would have been too much of a turn around from Pride and Prejudice. On the other hand, he did brood a little more than I thought he would have. Some people complained that he was controlling but I think he was just acting the part of a man of the time would when it came to those situations with other men and his wife.

All in all I'm going to rate this book fairly high. I read it aloud to my husband and we both found the plot humorous and engaging, and the ending for Lydia and Wickham very fitting. The storyline with Kitty though was almost too much and that combined with a few other missteps in Mr. Darcy and Mary's character (don't want to give too much away) is why this novel lost a star.
Ms. Halstead does a good job on this sequel to E&D's marriage. Both are a touch off from Austen's original, but overall it's an interesting, if unevenly paced, read.
