Sleeping With the Wolf After the Crash Book One Maddy Barone Books

Reading this book was an enjoyable way to spend a few hours. I love time travel stories and don't come across many about people traveling to the future (which seems like a much more intriguing premise than going back to 1500s Scotland or something). The focus of the story is the romance between Carla and Taye, so the reader doesn't get many details about the disaster that caused the woman shortage. Also, it seemed a bit of a stretch that so much of the culture could have changed in just 50 years (especially with people from the "Before Time" still being alive).

The romance between the two main characters is sweet and the way the other wolves embraced her presence was touching. Though I find it hard to believe that Carla could get used to thirty guys (and even teen boys) running around the place naked, after only a day or two. It's also obvious that there will be a number of sequels to show what happened to other women from the plane crash. And based on this book, I am definitely interested in reading more about this world.

I gave it three stars because the plot was really simplistic and I didn't learn as much about what's going on as I would have liked. Especially since this was not a stand alone novella/book and was meant to be the lead-in for a series. The author could have provided a bit more in the world-building department. I had a number of unanswered questions (ex. How much technology survived? Did all governments world-wide collapse? Is the plague that targets woman still going on? Does it make male babies more likely? Etc.).

Sleeping With the Wolf After the Crash Book One Maddy Barone Books Reviews

A future with not enough women! A bride fight is held! How can one live with no technology! Hope the one who wins is someone you can live with even if he is A wolf! Enjoy this story, I did!
I couldn't imagine what life would be like after a holocaust of man's making but this story made it seem almost magical even if life was hard. So many neat characters and many stories that need to be told.
I have mixed emotions with this story. First let me say I definitely enjoyed it!!!

**Spoiler**
When the wolves showed their emotions to the extent of Bawling I chuckled I mean...I just cant visualize these alpha aggressive warrior types being brought to leaning against one another in a openly emotional display, I mean I get that the premise being around end of world & technology as WE KNOW IT! ..but I dunno sorta took the zing out of it for me..the story kept me interested it just was those weird moments that sorta made me cross my eyes LOL!!! hoping to hear more about Carla & Taye in the other books..
She jumps straight to the point no suspense that gets you excited. It feels choppy and doesn't flow well. What happens to the rest of characters? Honestly its too early in book to evaluate. Its obvious what comes next and my imagination is always better so I guess it time to dump this book and move on seeing as you are making me evaluate this book now.
Loved It. This is the first book of the series "After the Crash." It is original, interesting, clean, intelligent, well thought out, really nice romance, and just plain enjoyable. How would it be if you ended up in the future, after the world as we know it ended? How would society go one? Love these books that are about more than just the 2 main characters, but about their friends, family, and what they do to survive. I have bought everyone of this series, and wish their were more. This is a feel good book.
I have read a ton of alpha shifter romance stories and after a while they become rather formulaic. Here, the wolves have an almost dual personality - quick to fight to protect yet childlike when it comes to romancing a mate as the scarcity of women makes the majority of the virgins. This is a nice and welcome twist to the usual shifter romance. The hero's reliance on romance novels for guiding his wooing behavior is frequent theme in this series and it's a hoot when it comes up.

Another huge plus is that the heroine is interesting (she's a rising country music star) and is naturally resistant to becoming the mate of the hero. So often in these paranormal romances the female is just such a wimp to the alpha male. There are no TSTL moments of behavior on either the male or female's part -thank goodness.

I'm usually not a fan of the dystopian state of the world nor of western themed (although it's pretty light) stories, but the story was good enough that I didn't mind. I don't give this a full 5 stars as I think the world building could have been stronger; I had a hard time imagining that the world would have gone back to the old west way of life, I think a Mad Max type is more likely.
If you're looking for a decent and quick sexy Paranormal read, this could fit the bill. The writing is pretty good, although there are some wrong word/missing words errors here and there. The world building is decent, as the reader finds out the necessary background as the plot progresses. The characters are appealing, and the sexual scenes are hot.

I do think that a longer book, especially a first book in a series, would have been a wiser move on the author's part. I believe that the romance could have built up slower in a longer book, and the world creation would have benefited. I tend to get frustrated when I'm just beginning to get involved in a book and it ends.

That being said, I did enjoy it, and the many intriguing characters introduced in this installment promises an abundance of future stories. I'm just not sure I'll be reading them, unless they're on sale--personally, I want a longer book for my money.
